Anthony “Tony” Wayne Poland, 67, resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Bedford, passed away late Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.

He was born in rural Bedford, son of the late Thomas O. and Effie Mae (Bender) Poland.

Surviving are five children: David M. Flurie (Megan), Dustin M. Poland, Clarissa Poland, Timothy R. Poland and Elizabeth M. Michael; three grandchildren: Adam Ross Flurie, Amelia Ellen Michael and Ava Grace Michael; and two siblings: James R. Casteel (Barbara) and Connie P. Banks (Jerry).

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Thomas Poland; and a sister, Barbara Grace McGinnes.

Tony was a graduate of Bedford High School and a U.S. Army veteran attaining the rank of Private Second Class.

He worked as a prison guard at the Bedford Prison and also as a security guard for various companies over the years.

Tony loved listening to music and playing his guitar, he played in a few bands at local places and in blue grass band with his family.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing Santa Claus and taking his kids bowling.

Friends will be received from noon until 1pm, Saturday, September 14, 2024 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, where a memorial service with military honors will begin at 1pm.
