Arlene B. Long

Arlene B. Long 94, of Chambersburg, formerly of rural Martinsburg, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Transitions Healthcare Shook Home. She was born in North Woodbury Township a daughter of the late Elwood D. and Thelma E. (Beach) Ayers. On January 21, 1950 in Woodbury she married Harry F. “Don” Long who preceded her in death on October 29, 2015. She is survived by a son, Larry A. Long and wife Helen, of Hollidaysburg; three grandchildren: Crystal Smith and husband Jason, Cathy Whitman and husband Jason, and Christopher Harclerode and wife Leah; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Linda Gorman and Gail Mellons; and a brother Ronald Ayers.
Arlene was a 1949 graduate of Morrison’s Cove High School, and worked in the cafeteria at the Martinsburg Elementary School for most of her life. She was a very active member of the Diehl’s Crossroads Church of the Brethren where she was the Children’s Director, President of Women’s Fellowship, and church secretary for over 24 years. Arlene was a gifted homemaker who enjoyed reading, canning, fishing, bird watching, and Pittsburgh Steeler football.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at the Diehl’s Crossroads Church of the Brethren from Noon until the 1:00 pm funeral service with Pastor Millie Baker officiating. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
