Barbara Ann (Stenger) Mingle, 96, of Havertown, Pa., formerly of Roaring Spring, died on March 21, 2026. She was born November 29, 1929, in Millville, Pa., the 5th of 7 children of Rev. Harry C. and Mildred (Mason) Stenger. As the daughter of an itinerant Methodist minister, Barbara spent her school years in York, Everett, and Bellefonte, Pa., graduating from Roaring Spring High School in 1947 and receiving a Certificate in Secretarial Science from Lycoming College in 1949. From 1952 to 1982 she was a partner in the Roaring Spring Department Store, then worked as a bookkeeper for Burchfields, Inc., of Martinsburg until retiring in 1993.
Barbara was the mother of 3 sons, David Mingle (Laurel), Daniel Mingle (Cindy), and Douglas Mingle (Jo Ellen) with her former husband, the late Donald Mingle. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; 9 grandchildren: Emily Mingle-Hershberger (Stephen), Bethany Mingle (J. Patrick McGill), Sarah Cringle (Mickael), Rachel Galloway (Lance), Aaron Mingle (Tia), Benjamin Mingle, Abigail Mingle, Martha May (Robert), and Kathleen van der Munnik (Nicholas); and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Ada and Flora; brothers George, Wilbur, Herman, and Harry; 3 infant sons; 1 infant daughter; and 1 great-grandson.
Active at Trinity United Methodist Church for nearly 70 years, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, held various offices in United Methodist Women, and spent many years with the church’s prayer shawl ministry. Her community involvements included Cub Scout Den Mother, Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a founding member of the Junior Women’s Club of Roaring Spring. In retirement Barbara loved traveling to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A prolific and proficient knitter, she excelled in many handicrafts and enjoyed gifting them to family and friends.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 3:00 pm until the 4:00 pm memorial service at the Trinity United Methodist Church, in Roaring Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church of Roaring Spring, or to Rosewood Gardens Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, marked for Recreation Therapy or Staff Appreciation via Paylink at rosewoodrhc.com.
