Barrie R. Wyland
November 4, 1952 September 1, 2015
Barrie Ray Wyland, 62, Williamsburg, loving father, husband, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, protector, hero, friend, and now our life long angel has gained his wings to watch over us. Heaven has gained another angel as Barrie went home to be with his Lord and reunited with his brother Bryan and nephew, Whitney, Tuesday evening after injuries sustained in a farming accident. Although tragic, and way too early, his exit from earth was while he was doing what he loved, helping others and being outdoors.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of James P. “Jimmy” and Darlene M. (Imler) Wyland. He was twice married, first to Kathy I. Lloyd and then to Catherine J. (Anna) Bagley.
Surviving are his parents; and wife, Catherine all of Williamsburg; 2 daughters: Crystal E. Bennett (Troy) and Amanda J. Banks (Abel) all of Newport; 2 step-daughters: Angela R. Knight of Corning, NY and Denise A. Bagley of Williamsburg; 5 grandchildren: Emily and Alex Bennett, Abby and Aden Banks, and Draven Updike; a sister, Sharon H. Settle (Melvin) of Altoona; sister-in-law, Karen Wyland; a nephew, Ryan; and 2 nieces: Darla and Valerie.
Barrie was a 1971 graduate of Williamsburg High School and was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg.
He retired in 2014 from the Blair County Prison as captain with 30 years of service and was a former Catharine Township supervisor and road master for many years.
Barrie was a selfless volunteer and always devoted his life to helping others. He was a member of the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Company, the Portage Lodge 220 F&AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Jaffa Shrine Center of Altoona, Shrine Cycle Corps, The Q’s, and the Jaffa Road Runners.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and also enjoyed hunting, and riding his motorcycle.
Friends will be received from 2-4, 6-8pm, Friday, September 4, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg where a funeral service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, September 5, 2015, Pastor Tiffany E. Marvich officiating. Interment will follow at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the Jaffa Shrine Hospitals or Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Company.
