Barry L. Ayers, 82, of Fredericksburg, rural Martinsburg, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, March 2, 2025 at his home, after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer.

He was born in Martinsburg, son of the late Glenn Clifford and Thelma G. (Brumbaugh) Ayers.  On September 3, 1965 he married Lois J. Grubb in Huntingdon.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Lois of 59 years; two daughters: Cathy Jean Davis of Duncansville and Susan Rae Stone (Tim) of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren: Chris Davis (Lindsay) and Bryan Stone (Martha); two great-granddaughters: Ava and Amelia Davis; a brother, Dennis D. Ayers (Linda); a sister, Janet L. Butler (Dean); special friend, George Dell; and canine companion, Carley.

Barry was a 1962 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg.  In his younger years he helped his grandfather deliver milk door to door in the cove and later worked as a mechanic at Wineland’s Equipment Inc. in Martinsburg.  Barry retired in 2001 as a truck driver for PennDot with over 30 years of service.  After retiring, he worked as a seasonal plow truck driver for both North Woodbury and Taylor Townships.  He also fixed many local farmers equipment and drove many Mennonite neighbors around the cove.

He was a member of Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg and served on the Fredericksburg Water Association.

Barry loved spending time with his family, especially with his great-grand baby girls. He also enjoyed collecting milk bottles, watching dirt track racing, the Southern Cove Power Reunion and John Deere tractors.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg and from 10 until 11am, Friday, March 7, 2025 at the church, where a funeral service will begin at 11am, Pastor Barb Hammond and Darrell Clapper officiating.  Interment will be held at Brumbaugh Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Barry may be given to John’s Way Medical Equipment Ministry, 137 Church Hill Lane, Martinsburg, PA 16662.
