Bessie Alverta Lykens, 89, Williamsburg, went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday evening at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in rural Williamsburg, daughter of the late James W. Sr. and Bertha (Hughes) Banks.  On August 20, 1948 she married Carl R. Lykens in Williamsburg.  He preceded her in death on April 3, 1995.

Surviving are 2 daughters: Rhonda J. Pearson (Glenn Sr.) of rural Williamsburg, and Brenda K. Lykens of Williamsburg; a son, Sammy Lee Lykens of Altoona; 6 grandchildren: Amy Flaig, Tina Krajacic, Glenn Pearson Jr., Connie Weber, Leah Kurtz and Glenda Fisher; 17 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Lorma Claycomb of rural Williamsburg.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Clair W. Banks Sr.; and 5 sisters: Emma Jane Forshey, Mae Newcomber, Lilly Brandt, Verna Cartwright, and Nora Kaurudar.

Bessie was a member of the former Williamsburg Church of God.  She was primarily a homemaker who loved music, being outdoors, working in her yard and also enjoyed embroidering, baking and canning.

Friends will be received from 1 until 2:30 pm, Saturday, September 17, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg. A funeral service will follow at 2:30pm at the funeral home, Pastor Joseph D. Weber officiating.  Private interment will be held at Oreminea Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

Memorial contributions can be given to help the family with funeral expenses.
