Betty Jane “Granny” Heeter, 86, of rural Martinsburg, passed away Tuesday evening, January 26, 2021 at UPMC Bedford Hospital.

She was born in Huntingdon, daughter of the late John Luther and Edolene Mae (Wilt) Rutherford.  On May 2, 1959 she married Rex E. Heeter at the Altoona First Church of the Brethren.  He preceded her in death on June 24, 2014.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol B. McCreary (Kevin) of Windber; four sons: Dwight E. Heeter and Terry L. Heeter both of Fredericksburg, Brian C. Heeter (Amy) of Williamsburg and Mark A. Heeter (Debbie) of Curryville; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends that loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey N. Hall and a daughter-in-law, Debbie J. Heeter.

Betty Jane was a 1951 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a 1958 graduate of the Altoona Bible Institute.  She was a faithful member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where she helped in the nursery for many years and often volunteered at Camp Mantowagan.

She was primarily a homemaker, who also cleaned local businesses, audited for North Woodbury Township and worked in the cafeteria at the Spring Cove Middle School.

Granny was a prayer warrior, who loved spending time with her family, reading and talking on the phone.  Her doors were always open to anyone, anytime, never allowing them to leave with an empty stomach.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private funeral service will be held at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, Mr. Daniel Horton officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.  Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.

Memorial contributions in memory of Granny may be given to John’s Way Ministry, 137 Church Hill Lane, Martinsburg, PA 16662, Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church (Children’s Ministries) or Camp Mantowagan, 300 S. Mulberry St., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
