Byron Earl Daughenbaugh, 83, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg formerly of rural Martinsburg, passed away early Saturday morning at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring following an extended illness.

He was born in Martinsburg, son of the late, Levi Earl and Gertrude (Smith) Daughenbaugh.  On September 28, 1952 he married Delores R. “Dorie” Kyler in West Virginia.  She preceded him in death on February 2, 2015, after 62 years of marriage.

Surviving are 2 sons: Douglas D. (Tammy Hill) and David A. (Tammie Snyder) all of rural Martinsburg; a daughter, Vickie Salas in New Mexico; 6 grandchildren: Shawn (wife, Christy), Tyson, Brandon, Manuel, Jessica, and Angela; 2 great-grandchildren: Serena and Kenyan; 2 sisters: Cleo Gambill in Maryland and Lorraine Daughenbaugh of rural Martinsburg; and many nieces, nephews and their families, who he dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jenna Kaye Daughenbaugh; and 4 sisters:  Fae Rabits, Vivian Nevins, June Burns and Betty Lou Fissel.

Byron was a 1951 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg and was an active member of the Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church.

He was a longtime farmer on his family’s farm along Clover Creek and also had worked for 38 years as a supervisor and road master for Huston Township.  Byron was also employed at Penelec and the Green Giant Cannery.  He also did general painting with his brother-in-law, Buck Kyler and side jobs hauling coal and sawdust.

Byron was a member of the Pennsylvania Farmer’s Association and other related organizations, and in 1964 was nominated for the Outstanding Young Farmer of Blair County Award.   He also was involved with the local 4-H, where his entry won the Grand Champion Steer.

He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and also enjoyed making potato candy, ice cream and could fix about anything.  Byron was always willing to lend a hand or an ear to anyone.  He was patient, kind, always had a smile on his face and gave you a wink, saying “I’ll be darned”.  He was the best dad, pap, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, father-in-law that anyone could of asked for.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.  A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, Pastor Brian L. McCall officiating.  Private inurnment will be held at Salem Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
