C. Arlene (Ake) Brubaker, 92, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of S. Mulberry St., Martinsburg went home to be with the Lord, Sunday afternoon following a brief illness.

She was born in Martinsburg, daughter of the late Charles H. Sr. and Bertha M. (Replogle) Ake. She married Wilbur T. “Bill” Brubaker on February 14, 1942, Bill preceded her in death on January 25, 2003.

Surviving are a son, Alan A. (wife, Cindy) of Warriors Mark; a daughter, Betsy B. Lehner (husband, Lawrence) of York; 4 grandchildren: Douglas and Christopher Brubaker, and Seth and Kyle Lehner; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Charles Jr. and Denver K..

Arlene was a 1940 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg and a 1942 graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce.

She was a member of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, Martinsburg and the Women of the ELCA. Arlene was also a member of the Martinsburg Boosters Club, Martinsburg Ladies Bridge Club, Tennis Board of the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, and the Altoona Symphony Club.

Arlene was employed at the Martinsburg Shoe Factory and the Pennsylvania Shoe Company, Altoona from 1952 until 1977.

She enjoyed volunteering at Homewood, traveling, doing genealogy, cruises with her daughter and in her later years she and her husband had a home in Florida and spent winters there, where they made many friends.

Arlene was a direct descendant of Jacob Ake who founded the town of Williamsburg, which he named after his son, William.

Friends will be received from 1 until 2pm, memorial service, Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Homewood at Martinsburg Chapel with Pastor Ed Harshbarger and Pastor Judith Simonson officiating. Inurnment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Martinsburg Community Library or her church.
