Carl A. McFarland, Sr., 85, of Roaring Spring, passed away Monday morning, August 7, 2023, at his residence.

He was born in Skowhegan, Maine, son of the late Frank McFarland and Madeline (Cyr) Hurd. On August 5, 1972, he married Lois L. Miller in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2021, after 49 years of marriage.

Surviving are eight children: Ernie B. Miller, Carl A. McFarland, Jr. (Patty), Allen E. McFarland, George M. McFarland (Christina), Madeline McFarland, Mildred McFarland, Dollie Mussleman (Blair), and Mollie McFarland; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, David A. McFarland (Mary), of Cushing, Maine; a sister-in-law, Cathy MacFarland, of Windem, Maine; and a special cousin, John Tripp, of Maryland.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny A. Delozier; a brother, Gary J. MacFarland; and a stepfather, Earl Hurd.

Carl was a 1959 graduate of Skowhegan High School, Maine. He retired in 2002 from Keystone Bolt Company, Cresson, with over 30 years of service. Carl was then employed at the Garver Memorial YMCA, Roaring Spring, with over 12 years of service, until his retirement in 2020.

He was a member of Mines United Methodist Church, rural Williamsburg. Carl loved sharing a cup of coffee, donuts, and ice cream with his family and friends. He also enjoyed going to the YMCA and listening to music with Ernie.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Mines United Methodist Church, where a celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m., Pastor Gordie Trimer officiating.
