Charles E. Weiss

Charles E. Weiss, 96, passed away on July 19, 2026. Born on May 5, 1930, Charlie grew up in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philade lphia, PA, alongside his brother James and sister Sarae, and raised by their parents James and Elizabeth, all of whom predeceased him. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, surviving the brutal Battle of the Chasin Reservoir. On New Year's Eve at Philadelphia City Hall, he met the woman who would become his wife. Charlie and Joan McQuade were married in 1953 and settled into a home he built himself in Feasterville, PA, where they raised their two children, Joni and Chuck. His children remember a childhood full of fun adventures, many times involving a stray animal or two.

After his military service, Charles went to work at Allied Chemical before striking out on his own, founding DelVal Instruments. Later in life, he moved to Wrightstown, PA, where he was able to spend time with family, play guitar, and spend long afternoons with a dog in his lap. His constant companion was his wife Joan, whom he was never without until she passed in 2021 - as he would say for "68 fun filled years, my darling." Charlie loved poetry and shared that love with anyone who cared to listen. Emily Dickinson was one of·his favorites; she wrote "that it will never come again, is what makes life so sweet." By telling stories, cooking up fantastic pots of chili, and bringing a smile to everyone he met, Charles made every moment count, and created a sweet life for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughter Joni (Ed), his son Chuck (N iki), and his grandchildren Melanie (Matt), Danielle (Melissa), Mackenzie (Emily), Anna (Jim), and Cari (Dan), as well as his greatgrandchildren Kyle, Carson, Margo, and Ramona.

Burial with military honors will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 10:00 am at Washington Crossing National Cemetery with a remembrance lunch to follow.  Donations in his memory may be made to HVH Residents Welfare Fund at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, PO Box 319, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
