1924 - 2019

Clay E. Hull passed away on March 28, 2019 in New Enterprise, PA.  He died peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on the farm where he was born.

Clay was born December 4, 1924, son of Clay Ebaugh Hull, Sr. and Mary Shaffer Hull.  He was a life-long resident of New Enterprise where he worked as a farmer, photographer, and insurance agent. He was a lifelong member of Loysburg United Methodist Church until its closure in 2017, when he began attending St. John’s Reformed Church.  He was actively engaged in his community his whole life as a member of the Southern Cove Volunteer Fire Company, Lions Club, the Fishertown Band, vocal quartets, and church choirs.  Clay sang joyfully, whistled like a professional, and played a mean harmonica.

Clay is survived by his wife Dottie Farabaugh Hull, to whom he was married for 60 years after a 5-year courtship.  Some facts surrounding their meeting were a matter of marital debate. They met either while square dancing at Camp Sunshine or roller skating in Bedford.  (Dot still maintains it was roller skating.)  Regardless, they enjoyed family camping when the children were young and traveling later in life.

Clay and Dottie have four children:  Beth Hull of New Enterprise, PA, Bruce Hull and his partner Vicky of Osterburg, PA, Matthew (Matt) Hull and his wife Sally of Keedysville, MD, and Jennifer Hull Brooks and her husband George of Virginia Beach, VA.  Clay also is survived by five grandchildren:  Clay Wegrzynowicz, Sarah Hull, Bradley Hull, Mary (Mimi) Hull Skeens, and Sadie Hull; and, all were his favorite.  Additionally, Clay is survived by his sister, Shirley Hershberger and her husband James of Martinsburg, PA.  He was preceded in death by brothers Alan Hull and James Hull.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at St. John’s Reformed Church in Loysburg, PA.  A service to celebrate Clay’s life will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 11:00 AM, also at St. John’s Reformed Church in Loysburg.  Given Clay’s keen sense of humor, the coincidence of April Fool’s Day seems appropriate.  All who knew him know his eyes would twinkle and he would laugh at the irony.
