Corena S. Kagarise

June 27, 1928 – December 5, 2024

Corena S. Kagarise, 96, of Martinsburg, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Homewood at Martinsburg.

She was born in Williamsburg, the daughter of D. Raymond Sollenberger and Orpha (Holsinger) Sollenberger.

She was a graduate of Williamsburg High School and a 1950 graduate of Juniata College.

She married Donald Kagarise on March 24, 1951, in Huntingdon. He preceded her in death on November 11, 2021, having shared 70 joyous years of marriage.

Following her graduation from college, Corena began a career in teaching that would span 32 years. She retired from Williamsburg Elementary School in 1985 where she taught First Grade and tirelessly worked to develop the foundational learning skills of countless children.

Corena was a lifelong and active member of the Church of the Brethren congregations in Williamsburg and Altoona 28th Street where she served as a deacon and sang in the choir at both churches. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed traveling, playing card games and entertaining friends and family.

Surviving are her two daughters, Amy and Kristen (Steve); her son, Todd (Regina); her grandson, Warren; and her sister, Nancy.

Her family would like to recognize and thank the staff of Homewood at Martinsburg for the concerned and compassionate care that she received throughout her stay at the facility.

A memorial service will be held on March 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Bice Memorial Chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg. The Reverend Jerry McCuller will be officiating.
