Curtis R. Horton, 81, Riddlesburg, passed away Monday afternoon at his home.

He was born in Henrietta, son of the late Walter B. and Charlotte Mae (Koontz) Horton. On May 12, 1956 he married Mary Jane Zimmerman in Roaring Spring. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2008.

Surviving are 3 daughters: Nancy J. Garlock (Steven) of Shirleysburg, Gloria A. Morrow of Riddlesburg, and Robin M. Black (Kenneth) of Six Mile Run; a son, Jerry L. of Saxton; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Mona Bouslough of Roaring Spring and Faye Knisely-Tones of New River, AZ; and a brother, Lloyd in Texas.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons; infant son in 1956 and Scott B. on April 2, 2015; a sister Betty Bridenbaugh; and a brother, Bruce.

Curtis attended Robertsdale Church of God and retired in 1997 from Blank Book, Roaring Spring with over 30 years of service.

He formerly served on the school board for the Tussey Mountain School District and was a member of the Henrietta Sportsman’s Club, Six Mile Run American Legion Post 556, Hopewell VFW Post 8634, and served as a fire policeman for the Six Mile Run Fire Company.

Curtis was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict form 1957-1962 where he served with the tank retrieval unit, attaining the rank of PFC.

He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, telling stories, reading magazines and scratching lottery tickets.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Friday, August 26, 2016 at the funeral home, Pastor Don Evans officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Home Nursing Agency Hospice (Bedford County), 20 Sheraton Dr., Altoona, PA 16602.
