Darl E. Bechtel, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring, PA. Darl was the son of Elwood and Grace (McCall) Bechtel born on November 20, 1942 at the family farm house in Williamsburg, PA. Growing up on the family farm, his love for agriculture and being outside started.
Darl graduated from Williamsburg Community High School in 1961. In high school, Darl was an active member of the basketball team and the FFA department. He earned the Keystone Farmer Degree as well as other awards. Darl then continued his education at the Williamsport Technical Institute from 1963-1965 in the Carpentry and Building Construction program and was a member of their baseball team.
On June 17, 1967, Darl married his beloved and caring wife, Betty (Hoover) Bechtel. Darl and Betty raised their daughter, Lori Fackler (Jeffery) and they remained lifelong Williamsburg residents. Darl could be found building something out of what was on hand, fishing, hunting, spending time outside, or with their draft horses. Together, Darl and Betty had many draft horses and enjoyed going on the occasional wagon trail ride. Darl also enjoyed teaching his daughter and granddaughter how to love his gentle giants. Darl enjoyed spending time with family; whether it be at the Bechtel reunions, enjoying ice cream, helping to support his daughter’s projects or watching his granddaughter perform in a musical or play in a basketball game. Darl enjoyed spending time with his nephews; taking them on hunting trips or teaching them how to yield a hammer.
Darl began his own building and remodeling business from which he retired in 2012. Darl’s attention to detail did not go unnoticed in the quality work he did for each and every project he worked on; building beautiful homes for other families to create their own memories in. Darl's service to his community could also be seen helping several local farmers by lending a hand to build or repair what they needed. Darl served on the Hollidaysburg Trust Company Advisory Board for several years
Darl is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter and son in law, Pastor Jeff and Lori Fackler of Penn Run, PA; granddaughter Catherine Fackler of Indiana, PA; and beloved sister, Bonnie (Lee) Swinsburg of Harrisburg. Darl will be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews. Darl enjoyed hunting with his nephews and hand churned ice cream around the campfire with his family.
During the final years of Darl’s life and his health began to decline, his wife Betty became a constant and faithful caregiver, tending to him and ensuring he was well taken care of. Darl was a lifelong member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren and faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
Preceding his death are his parents, Elwood and Grace Bechtel and his brother-in-law, Frank Snyder.
Darl's family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Med/Surg team at Nason; especially Faith, a patient and kind nurse to help him in his final days.
