David E. Dempsie, 84, resident of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Hollidaysburg, went home to be his Lord, Friday afternoon at the home.

He was born in rural Williamsburg, son of the late Harry Edward and Leah Katherine (Dixon) Dempsie.  On June 18, 1955 he married Lois Jean Gunnett in Winchester, VA.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years; two sons: Gregory D. (Kathy) of Duncansville and Zane D. (Laurie) of Hollidaysburg; two daughters: Catherine Y. Wyant (Charles) of rural Williamsburg and Barbara J. DeWitt of Martinsburg; 10 grandchildren: David Wyant, Michelle Miller, Hillary Piggott, Haley Parson, Gregory Dempsie, Zana Archey, Ethan, Zoran and Aria Dempsie and Michael DiGiacobbe; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Calvin E. Dempsey of Streetsboro, OH.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: infant Nellie Esther, Josephine Hoover and Hazel Hamilton; and three brothers: Melvin, Lewis and Walter.

David was a 1953 graduate of Williamsburg High School and a U.S. Army Airborne veteran serving from 1953 until 1955.

For many years he attended the Clappertown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and later joined the Hollidaysburg Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he served as the Sunday school superintendent.

David retired in 1996 as the head of maintenance for the Spring Manor Apartments, Hollidaysburg.  He also worked many years as a self employed masonry contractor, who helped build the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Hollidaysburg.

He loved bowling, hunting and was a member and three time club champion at Sylvan Hills Golf Course, Hollidaysburg.

Friends will be received from 4-7pm, Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.  A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11 am, March 1, 2018 at the funeral home, Pastor Matthew Smart officiating.  Private interment will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Garvey Manor Nursing Home, 1037 S. Logan Blvd., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
