David “Frog, Pap” Lee Hileman

September 21, 1953 ~ May 5, 2024

David “Frog, Pap” Lee Hileman, 70, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, May 5, 2024, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief final fight against cancer.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harry L. and Zelma M. (Frye) Hileman.  On February 23, 1991, he married his doting and loving wife of 33 years, Alicia A. Hileman.

Surviving are eight children: Carla (Hileman) Peterson (Paul) of Callahan, FL, David Hileman Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Deanna (Hileman) Serko (Brandon) of Hollidaysburg, Sheri (Hileman) Burney (Deryl) Hudson, FL, Melanie (Hileman) Berthold in Germany, Jenn Bialo of Hollidaysburg, Ashley Caffey (Trevor Bush) of Altoona and Richard Caffey (Kate) of Largo, FL; 15 grandchildren: Hannah Plummer, Alex Plummer, James Bialo, DJ Hileman, Cameron Hileman, Emma Hileman, Benedikt Berthold, Kaedyn Wagner, Lyla Dietzel, Grey Caffey, Alexander Burney, Carynne Burney, Malakai Burney, Rylee Hileman and Amelia Serko; seven siblings: Janet Dick, Barbara Everhart, Judy Focht, Linda Brubaker (Rich), Kenneth Hileman (Joanna), John Hileman and Jeffrey Hileman (Julia).

He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank “Harry” Hileman; three brothers-in-law: Walter “Bud” Focht, Sherman Dick and Ronald Everhart; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hileman.

David was a 1972 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School.  Following graduation, he spent eight years in the U. S. Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.  David retired at the age of 50 as a correction officer from SCI Cresson. After retirement he spent his remaining years hunting along-side his brothers, checking his trail cams and an occasional karaoke with his nephew, Kenneth Hileman Jr., whom he shared a special bond.

He also enjoyed spending time with Gary, Mar and his wife, Alicia at the Moose of Oil City & Franklin and at the Legion & Lyceum with great friends in Marianna.

David was an incredible husband, wonderful father and the most special grandfather to all of his grandchildren and will be remembered as such.  Marianna, PA was his final residence with his wife, Alicia, where they enjoyed their “field & stream road” tucked in the woods along-side a stream.  This was the special place they enjoyed their back porch together.

Friends will be received 10:30am until noon, Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Frankstown Park Missionary Church, where a celebration of life service with military honors will begin at noon, Mr. David Cadle officiating. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.

Contributions in memory of David may be given to Friends of Canoe Creek State Park, 205 Canoe Creek Road, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
