Dennis J. Hammel, Sr.

Dennis Jay “Denny” Hammel, Sr., 71, of Williamsburg, went home to be with the Lord and Savior, unexpectedly, early Sunday morning, June 02, 2024.
He was born in Braddock, son of the late Russell Jay Hammel and Sarah Ruth (Sine) Campbell. On February 10, 1973, he married Agnes Marie McGregor in Williamsburg.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Agnes, of 51 years; two children: Dennis J. “Denny” Hammel Jr. (Leslie) of Entriken and Cortnee M. Hammel (Brandon Chamberlain) of Williamsburg; five precious grandchildren he adored: Dennis J. Hammel III, Emily E. Hammel, Kevin B. Hammel, Carter A. Chamberlain, and Caden J. Chamberlain; five siblings: Becky Aardweg, Linda Smith, Ruth Hooper (Bruce), Sandy Klingler (Mike), and Ron Campbell (Karen); and many nieces, nephews, and their children.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Wayne Hammel and half-brother, Kenny Campbell.
Denny was a 1971 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg. After graduation, he proudly served our Country in the United States Marine Corps. Denny worked for many years as a shipping clerk supervisor for Proctor-Silex, Altoona and FCI Berg Electronics, Mount Union. He was also a supervisor for Skills of Central PA, Altoona.
He served on the Williamsburg Borough Council, Blair County Planning Commission and also as the Mayor of Williamsburg for 12 years. He helped organize the Williamsburg Youth Baseball League and Williamsburg Flag Football League. Denny was also a coach for the Yeager’s Carpet/Fisher’s Mobile Home adult softball team, which went on to win a state qualifer.
He attended the Community Chapel of Hesston Church. Denny loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, politics, history, listening to music, and his beloved dog, Shobie.
Friends will be received from 10am until 12noon, Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Grace Pointe Community Church, Williamsburg, where a funeral service will begin at 12noon, Pastor Scott Decker officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Oreminea Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard, 1665 Newry Lane, Duncansville, PA 16635.
