Donald Gene Shaffer, 89, of Woodbury, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at his home. He was born on July 28, 1936 in Potter Creek; son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Clouse) Shaffer. Gene first married Florence (King) Shaffer on March 5, 1955 in Bedford, she preceded him in death on April 2, 1967. He then married Peggy (Ritchey) Shaffer on January 4, 1970 in McConnellsburg, she preceded him in death on June 13, 2023.
Gene was a graduate of Replogle High School Class of 1954. He retired as a Sergeant with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Gene was a member of the Curryville Covenant Brethren Church and owner of Shaffer’s Train Shed, later, Shaffer’s Full Steam Ahead Hobby Shop. He was a model train enthusiast, enjoyed designing and hand-painting metal soldiers, and was an avid reader.
Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca A. (Shaffer) Hazenstab; as well as siblings, Ronald Dean, G. Reid, and LaRue. Surviving is daughter, Sabrina K. Will (Joe); son, Mark A. Shaffer (Julie); as well as 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 4:00-7:00PM at the Curryville Covenant Brethren Church and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 11:00AM at the church; Pastor Matt Moushlian officiating. Interment will be in Dry Hill Cemetery – Woodbury.
