Donald Smith Imler

Donald Smith Imler, 96, of Altoona, passed away on December 17, 2019 at his home. He was born on April 5, 1923 in Woodbury, son of the late John and Lenora (Smith) Imler. On July 30, 1944 in Woodbury, he was united in marriage to Ruth (Whetstone) Imler; she preceded him in death on January 5, 1987. Donald was a graduate of Woodbury High School and a member of the First Church of the Brethren in Altoona. He served his country as a Tech. Sgt. in the United States Army from 1943-1946. During this time, he was awarded a Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. Donald worked as a house to house milk deliverer and retired from the Blair Sign Co. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Altoona VFW Post 3 and the Ravers Gap Sportsman Club. Donald was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; brothers Ralph and Levi Imler; and sister Anna Jane Corle. Surviving are son Terry L. Imler of Altoona; son Kenneth Imler Sr. and wife Rose of East Freedom; daughter Deborah Flanagan and husband Michael of Hollidaysburg; brother Daniel Imler; sister Vada Stern; sister Lydia Parshall; as well as 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 3:00-6:00PM with a Funeral Service beginning at 6:00. All of the following will be held at the Weaver Funeral Home in Woodbury. Interment will be in Dry Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in Donald’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
