Donald E. Sweeney

Donald E. Sweeney, 72, of rural Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday evening, October 1, 2024 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in rural Williamsburg, son of the late Palmer E. Sr. and Marie Cecelia (Deyarmin) Sweeney. Don was formerly married to Lugene A. (Erb) Byrns of Duncansville.
Surviving are a son, Scott A. Sweeney (Beth Knisely) of rural Williamsburg; and a grandson, Jaret S. Sweeney of Hollidaysburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: William D. “Bill” Sweeney and Palmer E. Sweeney Jr.; and two sisters: Barbara M. Bowers and Patricia A. Verbonitz.
Don was a 1970 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving for four years, attaining the rank of Corporal. Don was a member of the Bonner-Sollenberger American Legion Post 456, Williamsburg.
He worked for Conrail for a few years and later retired as a roller operator from Roaring Spring Blank Book Company, Martinsburg, with many years of service. Following retirement, Don transported numerous Mennonite friends and families.
Don loved going to turkey shoots at the Martinsburg Sportsman’s Club and also enjoyed hunting and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. His favorite saying was, “if I can put a smile on someone’s face, then that makes me happy”.
Friends will be received from noon until 2pm, Monday, October 7, 2024 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, where a funeral service will begin at 2pm, Pastor C. Matthew Roberts officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
