DORIS MAE HOLLAND May 26, 1934 ~ October 4, 2024
Doris Mae Holland, 90, formerly of Duncansville, went to be with the Lord on a gorgeous fall day on Friday, October 4, 2024.
She was born in Philadelphia a daughter of the late Gustav and Martha (Josits) Anderson and married, the love of her life, Theodore James Holland Sr. on June 7, 1953 in Johnstown. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2006.
Left to cherish her memory are two children, Beth Ann Brallier of Hopewell and Theodore James Jr. of Altoona; two granddaughters, Courtney Ann Levengood of Mechanicsburg and Michaela Elizabeth Long of Johnstown; two great-granddaughters, Catherine Faith and Caroline Grace Levengood; and three sisters, Nancy Keegan in Florida, Corinne Bickings in Pennsylvania and Connie Hartshorne in Texas.
Doris previously attended Grace Family Bible Church, Duncansville and more recently attended Community Grace Brethren Church, Everett. She was a 1952 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and worked for several years as a film librarian for Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 in addition to her full-time career as a homemaker.
She happily supported her twin children's obsessions with collecting rocks and bugs during their 4-H Club years, tolerated their years long desultory attempts to learn the piano; remembered for her assiduous housekeeping that earned her the moniker “Mrs. Clean” from her late husband, and her ready ability to take charge of most situations, earning her an additional sobriquet “The Little General;” from her late friend James Calvert. She also liked listening to country music, much to her children's chagrin; watching the Honeymooner's on a black-and-white TV, and will be fondly remembered for her sugar-coated cookies, chocolate chips and resplendent berry pies.
Doris loved animals and will be accompanied on her final journey by the spirits of the dogs she lovingly tended in life: Julie, Buffy, Trixie, Heidi and Mollie. She will also be missed by those she left behind: Augie The Doggie and several cats.
There will be no public visitation or funeral service. She will be privately laid to rest along with her husband at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
If desired, memorials in Doris' memory to Struggles to Snuggles Animal Rescue (strugglestosnuggles.org) would be most appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
