Doris Anne Henderson

Doris Anne Henderson, 95, of Martinsburg, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 20, 2021 at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Houtzdale, daughter of the late Thomas F. and Ida Louise “Margaret” (Wiberg) Gorman.  In 1950 she married William Kyle Henderson, who preceded her in death on August 7, 1977.

Surviving is a daughter, Patricia L. Henderson of Pittsburgh.

Doris received her Bachelor’s Degree in education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Teacher’s College and later earned a Master’s Degree from Pennsylvania State University.  She was employed as an elementary school teacher and reading specialist for the Tussey Mountain School District for over 20 years.

She was a longtime, active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg and a member of the Martinsburg Business and Professional Women’s Club.  Doris also volunteered countless hours at the Martinsburg Community Library, which was the place that held her two passions in life, books and reading.

Doris loved spending time with her family and also taking little plane trips with her family for dinner on Sundays.  She also enjoyed crocheting and completing crossword puzzles.

Friends will be received from 11am until noon, Friday, April 23, 2021 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, where a funeral service will follow at noon, Pastor Traci Marriott officiating.  Private interment will be held at Beulah Cemetery, Ramey.

Memorial contributions in memory of Doris may be given to the Martinsburg Community Library, 211 S. Walnut St., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
