Dorothy C. Steele, 84, resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, formerly of East Sharpsburg, passed away Thursday afternoon at her home.

She was born in Mattawana, Mifflin County, daughter of the late H. Elvin and Ruth (Dilling) Cunningham. On May 12, 1949 she married William L. Steele and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1998.

Surviving are a daughter, Gail A. Blattenberger (Steve) of Martinsburg; 3 sons: Larry W. (Cherie) of rural Martinsburg, Doug S. (Maggie) of rural Williamsburg and Kelly B. (Stacey) of Osterburg; 7 grandchildren: Adam Blattenberger, Breanne Davis, Emily Kitt, Mandy Steele, Billy Steele, and Tyler and Blake Steele; 2 great-grandchildren; Van and Gemma Blattenberger; and a sister, Helen Hamm of Martinsburg; and a son-in-law, Wayne Shaw of Martinsburg.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah A. Shaw; 4 brothers: Raymond, Earl, Lloyd “Buck”, and William “Bill”; and a sister, Hazel Thomas.

Dorothy was a member of Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg where she served with various women’s groups and was fondly known as the “Weird Angel” for Sunday morning service, children’s stories.

She was a life member of the D. Merl Tipton VFW Post 43, Martinsburg Auxiliary.

Dorothy was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, listening to country music and also ran grandma’s taxi service for her grandchildren or anyone in need of a ride.

Friends will be received from 10am until the noon, funeral service, Monday, June 6, 2016 at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg, Pastor David F. Banaszak and Chaplain Linda S. Banaszak officiating. Private interment will be held at Brumbaugh Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
