Dorothy E. “Dot” Ritchey
March 11, 1930 – October 15, 2016
Dorothy E. “Dot” (Smith) Ritchey, 86, of Martinsburg, passed away on Saturday at The Village at Morrisons Cove. She was born in Saltillo, daughter of the late Earl and Edith (Kephart) Shope. She was twice married, first to William C. Smith on November 6, 1949 and he passed away May 10, 1989 and then on April 13, 1991 she married James H. Ritchey Jr. and he passed away February 15, 2008.
Surviving is a son Rodney A. Smith of Ann Arbor, MI, a daughter Terry A. May of Duncansville, two step sons Greg (Connie) Ritchey and James (Christine) Ritchey, 3 granddaughters Melissa Smith, Michelle Deese and Jessa (Justin) Saive and 3 great grandchildren Trevor and Kaylee Deese and Cole Fetter.
She was the last surviving member of her family and was preceded in death by 6 brothers, 2 sisters and a son-in-law Ben L. May.
Dot was a member of the Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren where she was a member of the choir, the Home Builders Sunday School Class, the knitter group and the memo ladies. She was a 1948 graduate of Saltillo High School and retired as head of accounts payable from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company in 1992 after 28 years of service. She enjoyed working and singing.
Friends will be received Tuesday October 18, from 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday October 19 from 9:00 A.M until the 10:00 A.M. funeral service at the Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren, 210 N. Wall Street, Martinsburg, PA 16662 with Pastor Joel Nogle officiating. Interment at Hopewell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to her church or the charity of your choice.
