Dorothy Grace (Leighty) Sell, 92, resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove formerly of S. Ann Street, Martinsburg, passed away early Wednesday morning at The Village.

She was born in Newry, daughter of the late Lloyd A. and Mary B. (Holland) Leighty. On January 9, 1944 she married Charles L. Sell in Newry. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1988.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia A. Shaw (Barry) and a son, Gregory C. (Jacinta) both of Duncansville; 2 granddaughters: Heather Brooks (Chris) and Robyn Cherry (Jeremy); 2 great-grandchildren: Allison and Bryson Brooks; a brother, Donald Leighty; 2 sister-in-laws: Barbara Leighty and Margaret Sell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Leighty; and 2 sisters: Lois Toth and Leora DeLeonibus.

Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and had been employed at the Green Giant Cannery, Martinsburg and Sylvania in Altoona while her husband, Charles was serving in the Army overseas.

She was a former member of Newry Lutheran Church and a current member of Memorial Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg where she served with the Women’s Fellowship and was a member of the Cheerful Daughters Sunday School Class.

Dorothy was a past member of the D. Merl Tipton V.F.W. Post 43 Women’s Auxiliary, Martinsburg and had been a Girl Scout leader when she was younger.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking her friends to the hair dressers, out to eat, to church and especially to the chicken BBQ’s at the Newry Lions Club.

Dorothy and her best friend and neighbor, the late Virginia Brumbaugh, enjoyed traveling together after their husbands passed away.

Friends will be received from 2:30 pm until 4pm, Friday, September 9, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg. A funeral service will follow at 4pm at the funeral home, Pastor Joel F. Nogle officiating. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Memorial Church of the Brethren, 210 N. Wall St., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
