Eddie Hugh King, 79, of New Enterprise, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday evening, February 2, following an extended illness.

He was born in Salemville, son of the late Lloyd King and Floy (Diamond) King.  He married Grace Lillian (Snyder) King on November 27, 1958, in Salemville.

Surviving are his wife; his daughter, Katrina King Gentsch and son-in-law, Kevin Gentsch, of Salemville.  He is also survived by two nieces, Barbara (King) Jennings of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey; and Kathy (King) Wampler of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Eugene King and a sister Mary.

Eddie graduated from Replogle High School in 1954 and Shippensburg State Teachers’ College in 1958, earning a B.S. in Business Education.  He received his Master’s Degree in Business Education from Penn State University in 1962.  He was employed by the Northern Bedford School District for 42 years, teaching Business Education.  Eddie coached varsity baseball for 42 years, compiling nearly 400 wins, many district championships, and ultimately attaining induction into the Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.  Upon retiring, he was given the title NBC Coach Emeritus.  Eddie was also instrumental in developing the youth baseball programs in Northern Bedford as well as serving with the NBC Athletic Association in fundraising efforts to construct the football stadium.

Eddie was a licensed insurance agent for over 45 years, selling for various companies over the years.  He was an accomplished bowler, softball/baseball player and was an avid Steelers, Pirates, and Penn State fan.  He loved all sports at all levels, especially baseball.

Eddie was a member of the German Seventh Day Baptist Church of Salemville where he served as a teacher, chorister, treasurer, trustee, deacon, and elder.  His love of the Lord was evident in his everyday life. He conveyed characteristics like honor and integrity and instilled these values to his players as well as all those around him.  He allowed God to work through him in all his teaching, coaching, and business he conducted.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Friday February 6, 2015, and 10 am to 11 am on Saturday February 7, 2015, at the German Seventh Day Baptist Church of Salemville.  A funeral service will be held at the same location on Saturday at 11 am.
