EDGAR SHOEMAKER
Edgar Grant Shoemaker, 78, of Huntingdon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday, April 24, 2015, at his home following a brief illness.
Born May 14, 1936, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Joseph G. and Myrtle (Boring) Shoemaker. He was united in marriage to the former Shelby Weaver July 15, 1961, at the Church of God in Woodbury, Pa. by the Rev. Helwig. His wife of 53 years survives at their home.
Mr. Shoemaker is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Shoemaker and wife, Jodie (Jackson) of Petersburg, Michael Shoemaker and wife, Julie (Morningstar) of Hesston; and a daughter Traci Parkes and husband, Frank of Huntingdon; grandchildren, Jackie Hoffmaster and husband, Dustin of Hesston, Maria Morelli and husband, Toby of Huntingdon, Courtney Shoemaker of Petersburg, Katelyn Shoemaker of Meridian Mississippi, Tyler Batzel of Huntingdon; and great-grandchildren Ezra and Vera Hoffmaster of Hesston, and Sydnee and Mason Morelli of Huntingdon.
He was proceeded in death by two brothers, R. Gary Shoemaker and Timmie Shoemaker.
Mr. Shoemaker was a member of the McConnellstown United Methodist Church.
He was a 1954 graduate of Huntingdon Area High school.
He served in National Guard Reserves from 1958 to 1964.
Mr. Shoemaker was a lifelong self-employed automotive mechanic. Along with his wife he owned and operated Huntingdon Auto Parts (N.A.P.A.) from 1968 until 1982.
Mr. Shoemaker loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed watching his two son’s race dirt track late model. He enjoyed participating in all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. He was an avid model railroader and enjoyed displaying his model trains to friends, family and the public.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the John B. Brown Funeral home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. James Patterson officiating.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 27 at the funeral home. Friends may call from noon until the hour of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
