Elaine T. Sollenberger, 91, a resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove formerly of Woodlawn Ave., Martinsburg, passed away late Wednesday at the home.

She was born in Burlington, NC, daughter of the late William and Alta (Amick) Tew.  On June 4, 1955 she married Howard I. Sollenberger and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1994.

Surviving are a son, Lowell T. and wife, Beth of Danville, VA; 2 grandsons: Jordan and Hunter; and 2 nephews: Allen and Scott Gahagan.

Elaine was preceded in death by a sister, Yvonne Gahagan; and a nephew, Garry Gahagan.

She was a 1943 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and also received her registered nurse certification from Hahnemann Hospital School for Nurses, Philadelphia.

Elaine had been employed as a registered nurse for many years, having worked at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, Lower Bucks County Hospital, Bristol; although she primarily worked as a private duty nurse later in her career.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg and served on various local committees and was very instrumental in the construction of the tennis courts near the Morrisons Cove Park.

Elaine loved entertaining family and friends, gardening, flowers, art and also enjoyed playing cards in her bridge club.

Friends will be received from noon until 1 pm, Sunday, August 7, 2016 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, followed by a 1pm funeral service at the church with Pastor Judith E. Simonson officiating.  Interment will be held at Dry Hill Cemetery, Woodbury.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the Martinsburg Community Library.
