Elizabeth “Betty” Edna Holdridge

Elizabeth “Betty” Holdridge, 92, Williamsburg, PA, passed away at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, where she had been a resident for four years.
She was born in Fayetteville, NY, daughter of the late Willard John Niles and Anna Laura Niles. Her youth was spent with relatives, Donald W. and Ruth C. Slentz, in West Edmeston, NY. She married Carlton Adams Holdridge on August 25, 1945 in West Edmeston. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Gordner and husband William of Clifton Springs, NY; a son, D. Michael Holdridge of Williamsburg; a brother-in-law, Warren Sholes of Fort Edward, NY; 2 sisters, Dorothy Burlingham of Chittenango, NY and Barbara Jean Wheeldon of West Winfield, NY; and also surviving is her loving and faithful friend, George Dempsie of Williamsburg.
Betty was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister.
She was a graduate of Leonardsville NY Central School and attended business school afterward.
Betty and her husband, Carlton owned and operated Holdridge’s General Store in West Edmeston, NY for 22 years, and she also was employed for Preferred Mutual Insurance, New Berlin, NY.
After the store closed, Betty became a secretary in Norwich, NY for GLA Laboratories. She later became the executive director of Opportunities for Chenango in Norwich, and worked in that capacity until her retirement.
Betty was a member of the Columbus Community Church, Columbus, NY. She will always be remembered for her dependability and faithful service to the church.
Friends will be received from 2pm until the 3pm, memorial service, Sunday, March 13, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, The Reverend Evelyn J. Wald officiating. Inurnment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin, NY.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the Columbus Community Church, 4311 State Highway 80, New Berlin, NY 13411.
