Estella Violet Gray, 97, formerly of Merritt Island, FL and Reading, passed away late Tuesday evening, July 31, 2018 at her home in Fort Myers, FL.

She was born in rural Williamsburg, daughter of the late R. Paul and Estella V. (Lytle) Cunningham.  On May 22, 1941, she married George M. Gray in Williamsburg, and he preceded her in death on December 3, 1981.

Surviving are a daughter, Sheila K. Rogers (husband, Will) of Fort Myers, FL; 4 grandchildren: Anika Niehans, Austin Gray, Lindsay Rogers and Kayla Rogers; and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth M. Gray; 3 brothers: Robert, Paul and Richard “Bert” Cunningham; and 5 sisters: Grace Fonner, Helen Lane, Kathryn Hoffman, Jane Bumgardner and Ruth Carroll.

Violet was a 1939 graduate of Williamsburg High School, and also worked as a sales associate at Boscov’s while residing in Reading.

She attended Faith Lutheran Church in Lehigh Acres, FL, and was a 63 year member of the Mt. Union Chapter #280 Order of the Eastern Star.

Violet enjoyed collecting sea shells, swimming at their home and shopping.

A graveside service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Yellow Springs Lutheran Cemetery, rural Williamsburg, Pastor Tiffany E. Marvich officiating.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Faith Lutheran Church, 705 Leeland Heights Blvd., East, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936 or a caring hospice program of your choice.

Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.
