She is the daughter of the late Samuel C. Tetwiler and Fannie (Smith) Tetwiler. She was born on August 29, 1926 up along the mountain on Piney Creek Road. She was soon to be 100 years old. On October 15, 1943, Ethel married Ralph Dean Moyer in Cumberland, MD. In 2016, he preceded her to his heavenly home with the Father. They were happily married for 72 ½ years.

Surviving are three daughters: Grace L. Suter (late husband D. Patrick) of Langehorne, Patricia A. Riley (late husband William C.) Williamsburg, and Linda K. Smith and husband Gerald, of Martinsburg; three grandchildren: Brian Suter and wife Colleen, Valerie Detwiler and husband C.A., and Jeffrey Suter; five great-grandchildren: Erin, Caroline, and Luke Suter, and Carly and Gabe Detwiler; and a brother John Tetwiler. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Martha McClain and Reba Paul, and a brother Sylvester Tetwiler.

Ethel was a graduate of Bean Hill, in Martinsburg. She was very active in her complete journey of life in many things the Lord has planned for her. First was her family and Dean’s family. She loved to sew, mend, make things of various sorts, crochet, can, cook, bake, and make braided rugs. She loved to decorate for the holidays. Ethel and Dean were lifetime members of the Yellow Springs Lutheran Church from marriage. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, and participated in the Ladies Group and the Willing Workers sewing group. The church was like a second home to her.

She was a life time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was very active with many friends. Ethel was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary which she was very active and had many friends. A member of the Jobel Court #11, Order of Amaranth, Inc., Daughter of the Nile, Past Matron and Past Patron Association of 7A & 8B, life member of Nason Auxiliary Hospital, Grand Rep of the Key Stoners, and was a past member of the Williamsburg Band Parents following her daughters in the Williamsburg Blue Pirate Band.

Her first job was in 1942 in Baltimore with the Social Security Administration when the office began. She returned home and was married. Ethel often told of the Navel ships which came into harbor with thousands of Navy men aboard during war times. Notably, she attended four presidential inaugurations.

Ethel started a dry-cleaning business from 1961 until 1963 in Williamsburg, and at the same time worked at the shoe factory in Martinsburg. In 1964 she went to U.S. Envelope where she worked for 21-1/2 years running a printing press in Williamsburg. Dean got the job at PennDot as an operator of heavy equipment and that was the fulfillment of their life.

Ethel lost her mother at age 4 ½ due to childbirth. She lived with her father who ran a thrasher for farmers and she stayed with many other families through her life. She wrote that she would like to go and do it all over again. Thanks be to the Lord.
