Ethel Lillian Knauss, 96, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Spring Hill, Pittsburgh, passed away Wednesday morning at Homewood.

She was born in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late George H. and Lillian L. (Lieb) Roth.  She married Joseph A. Knauss Jr. on July 15, 1942 in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1968.

Surviving are 2 sons: Jeffrey R. (wife, Sue) of Pittsburgh and Timothy H. (wife, Monica) of Martinsburg; and 2 grandchildren: Hannah of Morton and Matthew of Martinsburg.

Ethel was a 1937 graduate of Allegheny High School, Pittsburgh.

She retired from the Giant Eagle Corporate Office, Pittsburgh (Produce Department) after 26 years of service.

Ethel was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, and Brighton Heights Lutheran Church, Pittsburgh.

She enjoyed spending time in Florida and bowling with the “Jolly Girls”.

Friends will be received from 1-3pm and 5-7pm, Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg, with a worship service to follow at 7 pm, Pastor Judith E. Simonson and Pastor Ed Harshbarger officiating.  Friends will also be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Schellhaas Funeral Home Inc., Westview, PA, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, June 22, 2015, Reverend Debra Thompson officiating.  Interment will follow at Union Dale Cemetery, Pittsburgh.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.
