Evelyn V. Gardner, 86, Canoe Creek, rural Hollidaysburg, passed away early Friday morning at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Canoe Creek, daughter of the late Harry and Virgie (Polk) Sine. She married Walter S. Gardner Jr. on April 19, 1946 in Canoe Creek. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2001.
Surviving are 3 sons: Walter S. III, Timothy G. and Terry L.; a daughter, Cindy L. Brown; 7 grandchildren, including her granddaughter and caregiver, Virginia Helsel; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Campbell; and a brother-in-law, Murray Gardner with whom she resided.
She was preceded in death by 7 sisters; and 6 brothers.
Evelyn was a member of Canoe Creek Brethren in Christ Church. She also played guitar and sang for 40 years in many area churches as well as helped form the group “Happy Harvesters” gospel singing group.
She was primarily a homemaker who also cleaned homes for many families in the Hollidaysburg area.
Evelyn was the former vice president of the local Democratic Club and also served as a Democratic committeewoman in Frankstown Township for 18 years.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family, and also enjoyed camping and fishing.
Friends will be received from noon until the 2 pm funeral service, Monday, November 16, 2015 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, Pastor Ron Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at New Canoe Creek Cemetery, rural Hollidaysburg.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the Home Nursing Agency Hospice.
