Florence Mae Reed, 93, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, at Homewood at Martinsburg.

Formerly of Washington, she was a retired homemaker who had dedicated her life to taking care of her family.

She was born May 5, 1931, in Canonsburg, daughter of Fred W. and Miriam (Reese) Kohring. She attended Canonsburg schools and worked at the Bakery in Canonsburg, as well as at a bank in Mt. Lebanon.

On Oct. 24, 1959, she married John W. Reed, of Washington, who died July 24, 1993. She moved to Martinsburg in 2001 to be near family.

She was a devoted Christian and had attended Martinsburg Mennonite Church with her dear friend Janice Kanode and Janice’s late husband, Charles. She also had attended Central Assembly of God in Houston.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother who died at birth; another brother, Fred C. Kohring, who died Feb. 2, 2005; and a granddaughter, Miriam Grace Reed, who died in the womb in 2004.

She is survived by son J. Mark Reed and his wife, Sherri, of Martinsburg; son Scott F. Reed and his wife, Sally, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; grandson Matt Reed and his wife, Bre, of Farmington, Minn.; grandsons Jeffrey Reed of Martinsburg and David Reed of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a granddaughter Anna Reed of Eden Prairie, Minn.; great-grandchildren Jackson Reed and Marina Reed; several nephews; and a great-niece.

Friends will be received from 1 until 2pm, Monday, October 7, 2024 at Bice Memorial Chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg, where a funeral service will begin at 2pm, Rev. Jerry McCuller Jr. officiating.  Private interment will be held at Washington County Cemetery.
