Frances L. Johnson, 93, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Claysburg and Saxton, passed away Saturday evening at Homewood.

She was born in Indiana, PA, daughter of the late Charles L. and Edna (Thomas) Longwill.  She married J. Ernest Johnson on July 22, 1944 in Clymer.  He preceded her in death on July 6, 1979.

Surviving are 2 daughters: Karen Gardner (husband, Gerald) of Duncansville, and Patricia Bongiorno (husband, Joseph) of Sarasota, FL; a son, Thomas Johnson of Duncansville; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, F. Thomas Longwill; and a daughter-in-law, Annette Johnson.

Frances was a 1940 graduate of Clymer High School and a 1944 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College.

She retired from IU8 as a Learning Support Teacher, having taught in Hollidaysburg and Lakemont.

Frances was a member of Woodbury Faith United Methodist Church.

She was very active in the Homewood community for many years, where she participated in the gardening club, various activities and also worked at the country store.

Friends will be received from 9:30 am until the 11 am funeral service, Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Homewood at Martinsburg Chapel, Rev. Jerry McCuller Jr. officiating.  Private interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery, Saxton.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the Homewood at Martinsburg Benevolence Fund.
