Gary L. Bechtel

      Gary L. Bechtel 78, of Martinsburg, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Village at Morrisons Cove. He was born in Roaring Spring a son of the late C. Carl and Nancy N. (Metzker) Bechtel. On February 14, 1970 in Baltimore, MD he married Carolyn J. Bechtel who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Christopher C. Bechtel, of Baltimore, MD; two brothers: Lowell B. Bechtel and wife Peggy, of Greenwood, DE, and Reed C. Bechtel and wife Marsha, of Columbus, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

      Gary was a 1965 graduate of Central High School where he was a standout basketball player. He then served in the US Army, stationed in Germany, during the Vietnam War from 1966 – 1969. Gary lived in Maryland for over 40 years before retiring to Martinsburg, PA. He was a member and former president of the Martinsburg Booster Association, and he also enjoyed playing in the senior basketball league at Garver YMCA in Roaring Spring Gary also loved gardening and working outdoors.

      Friends will be received on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service at the Memorial Church of the Brethren with Pastor Lowell Bechtel officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Blair County Honor Guard.
