George David Barnes Sr.
March 14, 1937 ~ February 18, 2025
George David Barnes Sr., 87, of rural Roaring Spring, went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday morning, February 18, 2025 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Greenville, SC, son of the late George Washington and Louise (Taylor) Barnes. On August 26, 1957 he married Jeanne B. Brantner in Hartwell, GA.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Jeanne of 67 years; four sons: George David Barnes Jr. (Denise) of rural Roaring Spring, Daniel P. Barnes (Sheryl) of Theodore, AL, Michael W. Barnes (Amy) of Martinsburg and Eric L. Barnes (Stephanie) of Plymouth, IN; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Raymond, Ronald, Keith, Greg and Steve Barnes; and a sister, Sandra Kennedy.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Flairty; and a brother, Dennis Barnes.
David attended Marietta High School in South Carolina and later finished his degree while serving in the military. He was a U.S. Marines veteran serving from 1954 until 1957, attaining the rank of Corporal.
He retired as a machinist from Conrail, Juniata Locomotive Shops, Altoona with over 30 years of service.
David was a longtime member of Faith Assembly of God Church, Roaring Spring, where he served faithfully in many leadership roles and capacities.
He loved serving his Lord and spending time with his family, David also enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and working in his garage.
Friends will be received from 11am until 1pm, Friday, February 21, 2025 at Faith Assembly Church, Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will begin at 1pm, Pastor Dell Smith officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
