George R. “Sam” Dubbs

George R. “Sam” Dubbs, 75, of Duncansville, passed away late Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at UPMC Altoona, following an extended illness.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late George E. and Marian E. (Talbert) Dubbs. On December 19, 1970 he married Maureena Mae Dively in Altoona.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 48 years; a daughter, Aliece Maureen (Shannon) Newton of Louisville, KY; two sons: George S. (Christine) of McKee and Daniel F. (Jessica) of Claysburg; seven grandchildren: Samantha and Michael Newton, Kami, George, Bronson, Noelle, and Danica Dubbs; three sisters: Martha Straubel, Nancy Magill and Linda Sites; and a brother, John Dubbs.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice J. Dively; and two brothers: William and David Dubbs.
Sam was a 1962 graduate of Central High School and served in the Army National Guard from 1965 until 1971, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was a member of Central Pennsylvania National Guard and Veteran Association and the Heritage Baptist Church, rural Martinsburg, where he taught a weekly shop-class for the students at the Heritage Baptist School.
Sam worked as a master mechanic and foreman for Conrail Railroad for 33 years. He loved spending time with his family and also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and working on cars.
Friends will be received from 10am until noon, Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Heritage Baptist Church, rural Martinsburg, where a funeral service with military honors will begin at noon, Pastor Mark E. Biter officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
Memorial contributions in memory of Sam can be given to Heritage Baptist School, 203 King James Lane, Martinsburg, PA 16662.
