George C. Smith, 102, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg formerly of Piney Creek Rd., Huston Township, passed away Friday morning at his residence.

He was born in rural Martinsburg, son of the late G. Clair and Elda May (Bossler) Smith.  On January 18, 1936 he married Hazel N. Gunnett in Williamsburg.  She preceded him in death on February 8, 1996.

Surviving are 3 sons: C. Eugene (Anna), George D. and G. Wayne (Rosalie) all of Martinsburg; a daughter, Audrey M. Helsel (Bill) of Ebensburg; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; a great-great-great grandson; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Smith; 2 sisters: Genive Underwood and Madeline Goldberg; and a brother, Donald.

He was preceded in death by a son, James M.; 2 daughters-in-law: Mary Jane Smith and Doreen L. Smith; a sister, Beatrice Slick; and 4 brothers: James, Marion, Harold and Elwood.

George was a 1933 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg.

He was a faithful member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church and also served for many years with Gideon’s International Bible Ministry.

George was a lifelong Dairy Farmer in Morrisons Cove and also worked as a (Huckster) selling produce and meats from his truck, throughout Hollidaysburg and Altoona.  He loved farming, gardening and being a witness for his Lord.

Friends will be received from 5-8 pm, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church.  A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the church, Pastors Grant Helsel, Brian McCall and Robert Russell officiating.  Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Gideon’s Bible International  or Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church both c/o 330 S. Mulberry St., Martinsburg, PA  16662.
