Grace E. Phillips

Grace E. Phillips, 88, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday morning, March 8, 2022 at Homewood.

She was born in Martinsburg, daughter of the late John S. and Fannie S. (Zimmerman) Metzker.  On July 20, 1956 she married Frederick E. Phillips in Winchester, VA.  He preceded her in death on April 19, 2019 following 63 years of marriage.

Surviving are five grandchildren: Holly J. Bem, Mindy Ochoa (Neil), Adrienne E. Williams, Amber E. Phillips and Dustin F. Phillips; 17 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Gabi M. Williams; and a sister, Ola L. Russell (Lloyd).

Grace was preceded in death by two sons: Larry W. Phillips and Allen E. Phillips; a grandson, Christopher C. Phillips; two brothers: J. Robert Metzker and Harold J. “Jake” Metzker; and two sisters: infant Anna Louise Phillips and Mary C. Russell.

She was a 1951 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg.  Grace was a longtime, faithful member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where she volunteered countless hours.

Grace was primarily a homemaker, who previously worked at Bowman’s Department Store in Martinsburg.  She loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed reading and flower gardening.

Friends will be received from 11am until 1pm, Friday, March 11, 2022 at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where a funeral service will follow at 1pm, Pastor Brian McCall and Mr. Daniel Horton officiating.  Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.  Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.

Memorial contributions in memory of Grace may be given to Gideon’s International Bible Ministry or Martinsburg Community Library.
