Grace Evelyn Smith, 102, resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg formerly of Curryville, passed away early Monday morning at the home.
She was born in Martinsburg, daughter of the late Frank and Ella (Burket) Stoudnour. On December 12, 1935 she married Gilbert A. Smith in Martinsburg, he passed away on February 1, 1982.
Surviving are 2 daughters: V. Joy of rural Roaring Spring and Jolene G. Bassler (Donald) of Curryville; a son, Drew G. (Linda) of rural Roaring Spring; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter, due in October, Ava Grace.
She was the last of her immediate family, being preceded in death by 3 brothers: Donald, Raymond and Leonard; a sister, Ethel Wilt; and a son-in-law, John Helsel.
Mrs. Smith was a 1932 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg and was formerly employed at Bowman’s Store and Bulger’s Jewelry Store, both in Martinsburg.
She was a member of Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg and was a former, longtime member of Curryville Church of the Brethren, where she formerly served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Curryville Quilters.
Friends will be received from 6-8 pm, Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg and from 2pm until the 3pm funeral service, Friday, July 29, 2016 at the church, Pastor David F. Banaszak and Chaplain Linda S. Banaszak officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
