Grant E. Russell, 87, resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Williamsburg, was called home to be with the Lord, peacefully with his family by his side, Sunday afternoon at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in West Columbia, WV, son of the late Eddie and Helen M. (Bass) Russell.  He married Vivian E. “Erma” Fife on August 19, 1950 in Pomeroy, OH.  She preceded him in death on April 9, 2008.

Surviving are a son, Rick E. of Altoona; 2 daughters: Melinda S. Johnston of Penn Run and Beth A. Bowman of Williamsburg; 6 grandchildren: William Gunnett III of Harrisburg, Amy Schultz of East Freedom, Zachary and Kaitlyn Johnston of Penn Run, Jared Russell of Tampa, FL, and Christopher Russell of Madison, WI; a great-granddaughter, Elle Gunnett of Harrisburg; and several step-brothers and step-sisters.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Nellie Marie Rose and Charlotte Crawford; and 3 brothers: Harold, Delbert and Alfred, who was killed in action in WWII.

Grant was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church, rural Martinsburg.

He retired as a lineman from Penelec, Altoona District in 1990 after 24 years of service and had previously worked in construction in PA, WV and Ohio.

Grant was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, gardening, and doing yard work.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg where a funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, October 8, 2015, Pastor Mark E. Biter officiating.  Interment with military honors accorded by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Home Nursing Agency Hospice.
