Harold Robert Brown, 76, rural Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord, Monday morning at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, following a brief illness.

He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Andrew R. and Lottie M (Pressel) Brown. Harold married, Norma Jean Smith-Patterson on September 18, 1959, at Vicksburg Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years; 2 daughters: LuAnne LaVelle (Chris), and Pamela J. Shoenfelt (Jeffrey) all of rural Martinsburg; a son, Shawn R. (Jennifer) of Altoona; 7 grandchildren: Matthew, Kristen (Josh), Dustin, Lindsay, Genesis, Katelin and Mira; 2 great-grandchildren: Andrew and Christian; a brother, Donald A. of Martinsburg; and a sister, Sally A. Riley in Kansas.

Harold was preceded in death by 2 brothers; G. Rex and David L..

He was a 1957 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg. Following high school, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Army. Harold retired in 2000 as a furnace serviceman from Barkman Oil Company, Woodbury, and previously raised beef cattle and drove truck for Hinish Orchards.

Harold was a longtime member of Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg, where he was active in the Brethren Disaster Ministries and also helped with the John’s Way Ministry.

He was former president of the Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed scrapping, tinkering and attending power reunions at New Enterprise.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2015, Pastor David F. Banaszak officiating.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the Brethren Disaster Ministries, c/o Clover Creek Church of the Brethren.
