Hazel L. Lewis 92, formerly of Martinsburg, was taken into the arms of Jesus at UPMC Northwest, in Seneca, PA, on Friday, September 19, 2025. She resided with her daughter in Oil City. Hazel was born to Joseph Francis and Cora Almeda (Hetrick) Clabaugh in Williamsburg on June 4, 1933. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1952. On November 27, 1957 she married Thomas C. Lewis in the Eight Square Chapel in Williamsburg, and they raised four children together. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1999.
Earlier after high school Hazel worked at several places. When her children were younger, she was a stay-at-home mother. She was a kind, sweet soul, and always had a sweet smile for everyone. Family was everything to her and she always put everyone first. She worked on and off at the Martinsburg Shoe Factory, then G.C. Murphys in Hollidaysburg, and spent 15 years working at the Morrisons Cove Home in Martinsburg where she retired in 1992. She loved to read, card games, old hymns, country music, trips with friends and family, and reunions.
Left to carry on her memories are three of her four children. Daughters Shelby (Stephen) Knox, of Oil City, Melody (Frank) Speck, of Williamsburg, and a son Russell Lewis, of Ebensburg; 9 grandchildren: Heidi (Justin) Stoltz, Anthony (Jamie) Lewis, Angela (Donnie Meyers) Lewis, Joni (Clay) Noal, Kayla (Darren Horton) Nickelson, Shannon (Dave) Dougherty, Jason Knox, Kaitlyn (Dane Thomas) Knox, Marissa (Justin Grassmeyer) Speck; 13 great-grandchildren: Camden Fornwalt, Cody Nickelson, Callianna Nickelson, Brooke Stoltz, Justin Stoltz, Kaidance Soellner, Carson Soellner, Tori Lewis, DeClan Meyers, Jack Thomas, Jude Wombacher, Shane Meyers, and Tulula Grassmeyer; a brother Charles (Shirley) Clabaugh, of Duncansville, and a sister Carol (Ron) Ayers, of Altoona. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Thomas A. Lewis, in-laws Russell and Lena Lewis, brothers and sisters in law: Jim and Irene Wareham, and Jim and Janet Lewis.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, September 26, 2025 at the Fink & Stone Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Martinsburg, from 6-8 pm, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at the Williamsburg C&MA Church with Pastor Paul Campbell officiating, with luncheon immediately following. Private interment at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Hazel’s name to: Williamsburg C&MA Church, 5270 Piney Creek Road, Williamsburg, PA 16693.
