Helen D. Imler

Helen D. Imler, 101, of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of New Enterprise, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, February 18, 2017. Helen was born in Aitch, the daughter of John H. and Emma L. (Keith) Russell. She graduated in 1932 from Morrison’s Cove High. She was first married to James Garfield Hall, secondly to Harry E. Magruder, both deceased. She then married Harry C. Imler on April 26, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2000. Surviving children are Kenneth (Dorothy) Hall of Ft. Littleton; Richard (Joan) Hall of Greencastle; Eileen (Bill) Swope of Georgia; Ronald (Rona) Magruder of Fairhope; Wilbur (Rose) Imler of Manns Choice; Mary Grace (Karl) Greenleaf of Roaring Spring; and Steven A. (Vicki) Imler of Everett. Also surviving are 20 Grandchildren, 30 Great-Grandchildren, and 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren with 2 more on the way. She was preceded in death by son Darrell Z. Magruder who was killed in action in Vietnam serving as a Marine on April 19, 1966. Also preceding were brother Herbert Russell; sisters Carrie Garner and Matilda Detwiler; and 4 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Grandchild. Helen was famous for making her crocheted rugs, approximately 1,200 scattered all over the states. She was a member of and belonged to the St. John’s Reformed Church in Loysburg. Helen loved reading her Bible, gardening, sewing, pulling weeds, doing dishes, and the many thousands of puzzles and cryptograms that kept her mind sharp until her death. She was a great people person who loved telling stories to her many visitors. She had a unique gift of making everyone she knew and met feel special, and they felt the same about her. She was loved so very much by all who met and knew her and will be missed greatly. Friends will be received on Monday, February 27th from 1:00PM-4:00PM at the Weaver Funeral Home in Woodbury. At 4:00PM a funeral service will be held with Pastors Mike Benner and Dave Meckley officiating. Interment will be at Dry Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the St. Johns Reformed Church in Loysburg or the Koontz Church of the Brethren in New Enterprise.
