Helen E. Lynn, 96, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Canoe Creek, passed away Sunday evening, at the home.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William L. and Alice (Clapper) Mattern. On May 16, 1945, she married John W. Lynn in Hollidaysburg. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2000.

Surviving are a son, John W. (Lana) of York; 2 daughters-in-law: Rose M. Lynn and Lois B. Lynn both of Williamsburg; 3 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Kenneth D. on December 21, 2012, and Gerald S. “Jerry” on October 27, 2013. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 12 children, being preceded in death by three sisters: Ruth Hetrick, Ida Bryant, and Ethel Mattern; and eight brothers: Jacob, Harry, Glenn, Clayton, Frank, Norman, Vincent, and infant Leroy.

Helen attended Hollidaysburg High School and later received her G.E.D. degree from Altoona High School. She retired in 1983 from Penn State University, where she was employed as a nutrition aide.

Helen was a member of Canoe Creek United Methodist Church, where she served as Communion steward for 20 years.  She was also a member of the Scotch Valley Grange, where she was a banquet coordinator.

She enjoyed sewing, singing and playing her guitar.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home, Williamsburg, where a grange service will be recited. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, December 15, 2016, at the funeral home, Rev. Jerry McCuller Jr., officiating. Private interment will be held at New Canoe Creek Cemetery, rural Hollidaysburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Canoe Creek United Methodist Church, c/o Charles (Chic) Brenneman, 113 Huntingdon Pike, Williamsburg, PA 16693.
