Herbert D. Hall

Herbert D. Hall, age 84, of Loysburg, died Friday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Loysburg the son of the late William Lloyd and Catherine (Brown) Hall. He married Joan S. Stayer on December 27, 1953 in New Enterprise. He is survived by his wife; a son, Douglas Hall and wife Joanne; 2 grandsons, Tyler Hall and wife Brittany and Tadd Hall, all of Loysburg; and three sisters, Janet Logue of Woodbury, Sally Seifert of Bedford, and Ann Roddy of Coronado, CA. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Kenneth, Fred, Richard, Harold, Ned, and an infant brother, Alan. Herbert was a member of Loysburg United Methodist Church. He was a 1947 graduate of Replogle High School and continued his education at diesel school in Knoxville, TN. He then served in the United States Army at the end of the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He was assigned to the tank division, serving as a commander, and receiving the rank of Sergeant. Herbert served as President of the W.L. Hall Lime & Coal Co., Loysburg from 1975 until his death. He previously had been employed at Cavalier Coal Company and New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. His main hobby was restoring D 2 tractors and he enjoyed showing them at the power reunions. He was a faithful member to his church and enjoyed helping out with their many needs. He was a member of the Alma Lodge # 523, Johnstown, the Southern Cove Lions Club, and the Power Reunion Tractor Club. Herbert served a s a director of the Dry Hill Cemetery, Woodbury and had also served as President of the Loysburg Combined Cemetery for several years. Friends will be received from 4-8PM Monday and from 10AM until the 11AM funeral service Tuesday in the Loysburg United Methodist Church; Pastors Michael Dawes and Al MacPherson officiating. Interment will be made in Dry Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by the S. Gerald Weaver Funeral Home, Woodbury.
