Howard N. Stapleton, 92, of Martinsburg, formerly of New Enterprise, passed away on April 20, 2025 at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg. He was born on March 5, 1933, in Coalmont, Pennsylvania, Huntingdon County; son of the late Walter and Grace (Defibaugh) Stapleton. On July 21, 1956 in Camp Spring, Maryland, he was united in marriage to JoeAnn (Hart) Stapleton, who survives.
Howard was a Class of 1952 graduate of Saxton Liberty High School and was methodist in faith. He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Howard was employed many years as a house painter in Southern Maryland. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, woodworking, feeding and watching birds, and was an avid baseball fan.
Howard was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a son, Brian L. Stapleton on March 12, 2025. Surviving is his wife, JoeAnn Stapleton; daughter, Kimberly Pepple (Terry) of New Enterprise; son, Mark Stapleton (Tammy) of Akron, OH; grandson, Matthew Pepple (Miranda); two step-granddaughters and 1 step-grandson; great-grandsons, Colton and Beau Pepple; 1 step-great-granddaughter and 3 step-great-grandsons; as well as a brother, Ralph Stapleton (Glendora) of Prince Frederick, Maryland.
At request of the deceased, services will be held privately. Inurnment will be in Bedford Forge Cemetery.
If so desired, Memorial Contributions in Howard’s name may be made to the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home (138 Veterans Blvd. Duncansville, PA 16635).
