Hubert E. Gunnett, 89, rural Williamsburg, went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family, Saturday evening at home.

He was born in Royer, rural Williamsburg, son of the late Neff E. and Edith B. (Vanderpool) Gunnett. He married Anna C. Corrigan on June 20, 1953 at Cove Forge United Methodist Church, rural Williamsburg.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years; 4 daughters: Edith Ann Merwin (Owen) in Montana, Gail R. Sheetz (Charlie) of Altoona, Carol D. Bookhammer (Dave) and Kathy R. Liebal (Butch) all of rural Williamsburg; 2 sons: Gary D. (Libby) of Frederick, MD and Nathan D. of rural Williamsburg; 11 grandchildren: granddaughter, Christina Wheeler, who was raised like a daughter in Hubert and Anna’s home, Angela and Anthony Bookhammer, Jackie Foderaro, Erin and Craig Gunnett, John and Michael Liebal, Rachel and Sam Gunnett and Meagan Merwin; 5 great-grandchildren: Jordyn Shultz, Jaylin and Alora Wheeler; Carter and Olivia Foderaro; 2 sisters: Shirley Deter of Duncansville and Lois Dempsie of Hollidaysburg; and 2 brothers: Willard Gunnett of Martinsburg and Edwin Gunnett of Williamsburg.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen C. Gunnett; 4 sisters: Erma Banks, Hazel Smith, Doris Ann and Rita Gunnett; and 3 brothers: Harold, Marion and Arch Gunnett.

Hubert was a1944 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg and was a member of the Clappertown CMA Church, rural Williamsburg, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Elder.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Hubert retired in 1993 as a Quality Control Superintendent from the Fonda Group, Williamsburg with 28 years of service.

He was a member of Gideon’s International and was a lifetime member of the Bonner-Sollenberger American Legion Post 456, Williamsburg. He also served as a Boy Scout, cub master in Williamsburg for many years.

Hubert loved spending time with his family, and also enjoyed hunting, bowling, softball, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penn State and was an avid Williamsburg sports fan.

Friends will be received from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm, Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Clappertown CMA Church and from 10 until the 11am funeral service, Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the church, Pastor Vaughn R. Kanagy officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Clappertown CMA Church or Gideon’s International.
